The biological coating of bodies still defines the state of power, recognition, self-determination, and sense of security. The body and its sensations, our identity and desires are determined by geopolitics, laws, parliamentary debates, healthcare fund subsidies, language, and self-control in the face of harassment. In this context, our corporeality is not our individual property, something inviolable. The intimacy of people who are non-normative or facing crises must be made public to initiate a discussion on important and current issues that we face as a society. Therefore, our bodies and their use in artistic creation becomes tools of struggle and protest, and thus a political act.
The works of invited artists from Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine are a narrative of how social and political events impact individual bodily experiences. And also the story about the need for solidarity and freedom.
Opening of the exhibition as part of Warsaw Gallery Weekend 2024.
