Spirits is the artistic and main part of Kacper Wiatrak’s graduation work. This story about the artist’s childhood is a game of associations in which mental notes are reconstructed as handcrafted mementos, painted or made from cardboard. The eight juxtaposed paintings and objects hark back to past stories and conditions, complementing each other’s meanings. Together they provide a panorama of feelings, making it possible to return to the scenes and people they evoke, ultimately creating a series about growing up, saying goodbye and searching for identity.
The second, design part of Wiatrak’s graduation work is a graphic journey through Serwis – a gallery and studio co-created by the Zbiór collective. The exhibition is a presentation of the visual language created for a place designed as a new cultural venue on the map of Wrocław.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kacper Wiatrak (b. 1998 in Wrocław) is a visual artist and fifth-year student at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. He usually works in painting, but he also creates objects and digital works. He treats his works as a diary – a proof of existence. It is a rather specific diary: Polish, bittersweet, self-ironic and full of contradictions. Wiatrak is a co-founder of Pracownia Serwis Gallery in the south of Wrocław and member of the Zbiór collective.
